Both days are filled to the brim with people having breakdowns after not getting any messages. There are multiple event days for sending people asks either asking their favorite characters questions, or sending love notes as their favorite characters. This gets extremely tricky when most of the popular shows that self shippers like (ie most mainstream anime) are filled with 14-16 year olds. Shipping yourself with any character under 18 when you’re an adult is also a big nono, which is more understandable considering the amount of kids in the community. ![]() Especially if they commit crimes worse than that of your average cartoon villain. Liking a villainous (“problematic”) character will get you spammed with hate as well. A few of the more intense users get genuinely jealous when someone else likes a fictional character, and will spam their inboxes with hate. Sharing a favorite character can get dangerous, especially when they’re from something new/popular. ![]() This post is just a general overview of the drama that’s happened in the past few years, and I’m sure I’m not even getting all of it. Sorry in advance if this isn’t as spicy as you’d like, I just wanted to bring up this niche community. It also attracts a ton of minors, which just leads to more chaos. Generally things are okay, but since a lot of it is on tumblr you get the usual crowd there. It’s just a place to have fun and be creative with no filters. No rules about how many characters they can like, and a lot of them are dating/married in real life. ![]() Similar to Waifuism here on reddit, but generally way more lax. This is for people who throw all caution to the wind and straight up write/draw/imagine themselves dating all kinds of fictional characters. In the past few years, a small but growing community has popped up on tumblr and twitter called the self shipping/self insert community.
